Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement now prime candidates ahead of final Rangers manager talks
Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement have emerged as the prime candidates to become the new Rangers manager, according to the Scottish Daily Mail
The newspaper reported in its print edition on Tuesday (10 October, Back page & 69) that both managers appear to be in contention to take over at Ibrox, with final talks set to occur over the next week following Michael Beale’s sacking.
Both Muscat and Clement are interested in making the switch to Glasgow, despite Clement’s reported links with Saudi club Al-Shabab and Nicolas Raskin has reacted positively to the possibility of the Belgian becoming his new manager.

Reacting to the links, the midfielder said: “I don’t know him personally but he did very well with the two teams he had in Belgium. And he also did incredibly well in Monaco. So let’s see what happens in the future. Would he be a good fit?
“Yeah I think he’d bring some clarity and an attacking style, so I think he’d be good.”
Endorsement
It seems as though the list of potential Beale replacements at Ibrox has quickly been whittled down to two potential names, both managers with impressive CVs, it will be interesting to see which way James Bisgrove and John Bennett go following talks later this week.
Muscat has a connection with the club having played at Ibrox during his career and the comparisons between Ange Postecoglou’s and his career so far will surely encourage the Rangers board to take a chance on the Australian after all lack of experience in Europe didn’t prove a problem for the now Tottenham manager.

But Clement has shown he can lead teams on the continent and his trophy haul speaks for himself. The endorsement from Raksin shows just how highly he is thought of by players in Belgium, especially when you consider the midfielder has never played under the former Monaco boss.
The Gers need to make sure they get this appointment correct and it is refreshing to see them take their time to assess the candidates, but with the international break now underway, they need a new presence on the dugout at Ibrox sooner rather than later.
Both candidates present exciting options, let’s just hope they can get a tune out of this side.
