Rangers injury concern as Nicolas Raskin not seen in training ahead of Real Betis clash
Rangers face a potential injury concern ahead of their Europa League opener against Real Betis on Thursday (21 September) after Nicolas Raskin was not spotted in training.
Sky Sports presenter Mark Benstead provided an update on the Gers’ preparations ahead of the Group C clash at Ibrox.
Raskin was not involved in the session Benstead was watching, in what will be a concern given he has been a regular in midfield in the early stages of the campaign, starting all five Scottish Premiership games.
“One player missing, from this part of the session at least, and perhaps a concern for Rangers supporters is Nicolas Raskin,” Benstead said on Sky Sports (20 September).
“He’s been an important player so far this season a really key figure in the heart of that Rangers midfield but so far this morning he’s not appeared for training.”
Not what Beale needs
Unless you have been living under a rock, it will not have escaped your attention that Michael Beale has been facing increasing pressure at Rangers over the past few weeks.
A dismal Champions League exit at the hands of PSV was followed by the limp 1-0 loss to Celtic in the Old Firm derby prior to the international break, which led to some calls for his dismissal.
Beale bought himself a bit more time as Rangers ran out 2-0 victors at St Johnstone on Saturday (16 September) but he will need a consistent run of wins now to win fans and pundits alike back on board.
Danilo injured himself in the process of scoring in that St Johnstone victory and will not play against Betis and losing the influential Raskin would be another blow for Beale ahead of another big fixture.
It is certainly not what he needs this close to the game.
In other Rangers news, Peter Grant was left baffled by a Michael Beale decision involving Todd Cantwell.
