Rangers transfer news as late Fashion Sakala announcement expected

Fashion Sakala’s Rangers exit is expected to be announced today (8 August) with the Ibrox club set to earn themselves millions, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reports in its print edition on Tuesday (8 August, page 49) that the Zambian striker is set to depart Glasgow for Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayah, having said his goodbyes to the Rangers faithful through a statement on his Instagram account.

Michael Beale has been open about a few more players departing Ibrox before the transfer window closes, with a bloated squad, especially in the forward areas at his disposal and it appears another departure is close and the Light Blues will receive a big financial boost.

Discussing the 26-year-old’s impending departure, the Daily Record Record wrote: “Fashion Sakala last night bid farewell to his ‘beloved’ Rangers as he closed in on a £3m move to Saudi outfit Al Fayha.

“The Zambia striker – was left out of the squad for Saturday’s opener against Kilmarnock. And it is now clear that his time at Ibrox is up after the 26-year-old took to social media to say his goodbyes. Official confirmation is not expected until later today.”

Good business

It is abundantly clear from Sakala’s statement that he genuinely loves Rangers and as fans that is all that you want from players who play for the club that you support, but sadly it looks as though those around him at Ibrox have moved on and he no longer fits in.

Beale has completely refreshed his forward options this summer and the Zambian striker has joined Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos in no longer being required to lead the line at Ibrox and therefore a departure makes sense for all parties.

Rangers

Earning £3m for a player that was originally signed on a free transfer by Steven Gerrard back in 2021 represents smart business by the Ibrox club and could well go a long way to funding further transfer business between now and the end of August.

If Saturday’s defeat to Kilmarnock is anything to go by, Beale’s side needs a bit more quality to remain competitive throughout the Scottish Premiership season and the fee received for Sakala may help fund a couple more additions.

No matter how the money is used, it is clear that the 26-year-old is a Ranger at heart.
