Rangers must cash in on Borna Barisic as time at Ibrox appears to be up - BBC pundit

Kenny Miller believes that the time is opportune for Rangers to cash in on left-back Borna Barisic this summer who may be part of the summer exodus.

Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are both set to seal their exits from the club and Barisic, a player who’s featured in the majority of games for the Ibrox outfit, could follow them out of the door.

While the club are not going to recoup the money they paid for him, with his deal running out next summer, it appears to be the ideal time to cash in on him.

Miller, a BBC pundit, told the Daily Record [21 May], “With Ridvan Yilmaz now in the building a lot of Rangers fans might think the Croat’s time is up at Ibrox.

“Maybe Barisic is looking for a bit of freshness himself. If so, the club has to try to make some money on him – which they haven’t done with Morelos and Kent. He might fancy going elsewhere and that’s fine. But the club must cash in now.

“At one point the fee being bandied about for Barisic – in terms of what Rangers could get for him – was around £6million. You won’t get anywhere near that sum with only one year left on his contract – but you could get something.”

Makes sense

Barisic has not been good for a long period of time and it came as a real surprise to most fans when he was included in the Player of the Year candidates.

There’s no way that his performances this term merited that and it seems like because he was fit and available for most games, he’s just been put in.

If he indeed was among the club’s best players, then the recruitment team need to have a long and hard look at themselves in the mirror.

Rangers cannot get to Celtic’s level with players like Barisic playing week in and week out so it’s about time that they make the right appointments and bring in the right players.

They need to cash in on him this summer and bring in a new left-back to have someone who can be better than Yilmaz.

It’s always nice to have healthy competition in every position so this is not going to hurt the club and in fact, it will only make the players better.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
