Leanne Crichton rages at Alfredo Morelos after what she saw in Rangers 2-0 loss v Aberdeen

BBC pundit Leanne Crichton has let rip on Alfredo Morelos for his “shocking” performance in Aberdeen’s 2-0 win over Rangers on Sunday (23 April).

The Colombian striker started and played the full 90 minutes but was largely anonymous during the defeat at Pittodrie.

With the huge Scottish Cup semi-final clash against Celtic coming up next for Rangers, pundit Crichton was live on BBC Sportsound (24 April) when she fumed at Morelos’ performance and called for him to be dropped for the big game at Hampden Park.

“Shocking, wasn’t he? Outrageous. Absolutely outrageous,” she said.

“Even if you weren’t too concerned about the result or performance against Aberdeen and you look ahead to next week, if you were naive enough to do that, he doesn’t make the starting XI next week based on that performance.”

Morelos has been getting away with blue murder this season, and fans have largely looked past it for a while.

Firstly it was injury issues, then it was problems with the manager, then it was the team wasn’t performing well enough to help him, but he’s now well out of excuses at Ibrox.

His Rangers contract is due to end in a few weeks and Michael Beale has already hinted at the fact that he is likely to leave the club, so he shouldn’t be in contention anymore anyway.

We should be using the remaining fixtures to plan out who is going to be here next season and how they should be used, and that includes the semi-final if Morelos is to continue playing the way he has been.

With Todd Cantwell, Ryan Kent, Malik Tillman, Fashion Sakala, Scott Arfield, Rabbi Matondo and Scott Wright all available we have enough attacking options without him.

It’s time for Rangers to move on from Morelos.

In other Rangers news, the club is set for a cash windfall with one player close to a £2m transfer to England.
