Rangers transfer update amid development on Ryan Kent to Burnley exit

Ryan Kent is one step closer to a Rangers exit after Burnley “made their move” to sign him this summer, according to Mail Plus.

Vincent Kompany’s high-flying Clarets have already secured promotion to the Premier League for next season and are looking good to be crowned Championship winners.

They emerged as a potential destination for the Ibrox winger over the weekend with the Scottish Sun reporting on 15 April that they were now set to scout him over the remaining matches of the season.

But Mail Plus have now taken it a step further and reported that Burnley have “declared their interest”, with Kent free to speak to other clubs over a free transfer.

Despite being regularly linked to a Leeds United move, the 26-year-old looks to be headed to Turf Moor with there “no sign of renewing” his deal at Ibrox.

The writing looks to be on the wall barring a surprise late turnaround that would surpass even Connor Goldson’s 11th-hour new contract last summer.

Kent has been a key man for a succession of Rangers bosses despite complaints about his level of production, so if it was possible to keep him at the club they no-doubt would.

He clearly seems to want to explore what other options are available to him, and if Burnley are following through with their interest then that sounds like exactly the sort of chance he would want.

An up-and-coming side that will be playing in the English top flight under an exciting, young manager would be attractive for most players, and some might argue that Kent is landing on his feet if he gets this move.

His exit, assuming it does happen, will leave a big hole in Michael Beale’s line-up but will clear significant space on the wage bill.

The manager needs to continue adding younger players with more upside after signing Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin, and if he can unearth a wide man who can provide more goals and assists on a regular basis it would work out best for all parties.

In other Rangers news, a winger is already being targeted as a possible Ibrox replacement.
