Michael Beale reacts as Rangers fan footage emerges during win v Motherwell

Michael Beale has reacted after Rangers’ fans protested against Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson before the Light Blues’ 4-2 win over Motherwell.

The travelling support made their feelings towards the board known with banners displayed before kickoff at Fir Park on Saturday, live on Sky Sports (18 March).

However, Beale has insisted he has always worked well with Rangers’ sporting director and suggested the fans “don’t know everything” that goes on behind the scenes.

“Listen, I have always worked well with Ross and he came when I was already in the club the first time around,” said the Light Blues’ boss (quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times, 18 March).

“I understand the fans’ frustration, they don’t know everything that goes on and the work at the club but I understand that they pay their money and they support the club and pack out every away attendance both domestically and in Europe.

“They pack out every game at Ibrox and they have a right to – in the right way – put across their opinion.”

Pressure on

The recent protest has ramped further pressure on the board heading into a crucial summer window. Beale isn’t under pressure yet, but he could soon be if Rangers endure another disappointing off-season.

Small strides have been made in January with the signings of Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin, but far more will have to be done when the season comes to a close.

Wilson has made a number of blunders in the past and now the onus is on the former Southampton chief to make smart footballing decisions. The decision to renew a number of ageing players’ deals instead of investing in the squad has left Rangers lagging behind Celtic.

The same mistakes cannot be made. There are numerous players who come to the close of their contracts and they simply have to be replaced with quality.

Fan frustration will grow until adequate change occurs. However, if more positive steps are made, the Ibrox faithful will quickly fall back on side.
