Nicolas Raskin is now signing his Rangers contract Monday evening after arriving in Scotland and the transfer is “settled”, Kevin Sauvage reports.
The Belgian midfielder is now going to become Michael Beale’s second signing of the January window after Todd Cantwell and should add a new dimension to the centre of the team.
Negotiations dragged on with Standard Liege unprepared to budge on a player who had already said he wasn’t going to sign a new contract, but a burst of activity to start the week has seen him arrive on a flight into Edinburgh airport and now the paperwork is being completed ahead of his unveiling.
Les Sports Plus journalist Sauvage reported via Twitter on Monday evening: “As specified in lessportsplus this Monday, the transfer of Nicolas Raskin to Rangers FC is settled.
“Current papers [Contracts being signed].
“The Liègeois is already there in [Scotland].”

And RMC Sport’s Sacha Tavolieri was overjoyed by the move, posting on his own Twitter account: “He is the perfect guy for the club. It’s the best profile possible for Rangers FC.”

There is clearly excitement coming out of Belgium over this move and there is likely to be similar on the Scottish side once it is all wrapped up.
That is now imminent it appears, after a weekend that saw little movement and raised fears that this might be a deal that was just out of reach once again.
But if he is putting pen to paper then the doubts can be put to rest and Beale will have at least got two of his primary targets this month even if nobody else arrives.
It might not be the complete overhaul that the manager appears to have in mind for the playing staff, with some of that no doubt having to wait for contracts to expire in the summer, but two players who are likely to start quite often is not to be sniffed at.
Whether it will prove to be enough to capture one or both domestic cups this season, or take advantage of any slip ups from Celtic, will become clear in the coming weeks and months.
Raskin has been linked to Ibrox for months so it is a relief to finally see it come through just inside the deadline.
In other Rangers news, a team is looking to permanently sign a Gers man who the club are ready to let leave.
