Chris Sutton takes swipe at Rangers today after what he said about Tottenham

Chris Sutton has taken a sly dig at Rangers after he was called out for his prediction of Sunday’s North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.

A Tottenham fan account called out the former Celtic striker suggesting he should be given a “lifetime ban” from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for backing Arsenal to wipe the floor with Antonio Conte’s side.

It’s rumoured Sutton (Daily Mail, 26 November 2021) has been banned from Ibrox after being refused entry in 2021 for the Gers’ game against Sparta Prague.

The former Parkhead striker has since responded to the Tottenham fan and took a swipe at Rangers in the process: “A lifetime ban would be excessive for a score prediction… don’t turn into Rangers,” said Sutton (personal Twitter account, 13 January).

Broken record

Sutton’s persistent barrage of abuse which he hurls at Rangers is getting particularly boring now. The Sparta Prague incident was big news at the time and it’s probably better for everybody if he just stays clear of Ibrox for the time being. His comments get reactions and it’s exactly what he is looking for.

In all honesty, his prediction on the North London Derby is not an outrageous one. Arsenal have been flying of late and will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. Tottenham have been disappointing and it’s hard to see Spurs picking up a positive result.

However, the former Celtic striker has certainly set himself up for a barrage of abuse should Tottenham pick up an important win on Sunday (14 January). Rangers fans will certainly be hoping for that outcome in order for Sutton to have a small taste of his own medicine.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to sign this “World Cup star” in January.
