Ryan Kent blasted by Andy Halliday with 'unforgivable' Rangers turn of events on the cards
It would be “unforgivable” if Rangers let Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos leave on free transfers next summer, according to ex-Gers ace Andy Halliday.
Kent, 25, and Morelos, 26, are both in the final year of their Rangers contracts at in their time at Ibrox, they’ve both been linked with big-money moves south of the border.
Halliday hasn’t really been impressed by Kent’s form this season but still wants to see the Light Blues tie him – and Morelos – down to new contracts to at least stop them leaving on free transfers.
“I don’t think there is a bigger defender of Ryan Kent over the last two or three years, but lately he just looks devoid of confidence for me. On Saturday it’s the first time I watched him and thought that these mistakes seem to be affecting him,” Halliday told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Whether it’s getting on the ball, being direct or just being the Ryan Kent we have seen before, he has just fallen short of being that player. Under Gerrard when Kent played the inside forward role, nine times out of ten Borna Barisic would be on the overlap.
“I feel like Borna Barisic is almost on a leash as well. Anytime Rangers are attacking it’s quite often crosses from deep, and it’s easy to double up on Ryan Kent.
“It’s not an excuse for him. He still needs to play a lot better than he is.
“I am certainly on the boat that I would be looking to tie the two of them down (Morelos and Kent) on a contract, though. The form isn’t great but they have done enough over the last few years.
“They have done enough and had enough success over the last few years. There has been a lot said about Rangers recruitment, and I think if you let those two go for free it would be unforgivable.”
Sort it out, Wilson
One man who’s not in the good books of Rangers fans right now is Ross Wilson.
His recruitment at Ibrox has been woeful with Giovanni van Bronckhorst seemingly making a point of that in the last two games by playing no new summer signings against Napoli and opting for academy graduates against Dundee United.
Antonio Colak has been a success, of course, but Wilson has failed to strengthen the team that won the title in 2019/20 despite Celtic making huge additions to their side.
And the Gers will be even worse off if Kent and Morelos leave.
Especially for free.
Both of them at their peak value would have fetched big fees for the Gers – potentially record fees.
However, we stand losing both of them for nothing because they weren’t sold when we had the chance to or new deals weren’t sorted out quick enough.
Neither player’s form has been that great but to at least preserve their values, new deals should be sorted out.
