Rangers reportedly want to sign free agent midfielder Fabian Delph
Rangers are among a host of English Championship who want to sign former Everton midfielder Fabian Delph, according to Football League World.
The 32-year-old is now a free agent having been released from Goodison Park at the end of last season and the Light Blues are supposedly keeping a good eye on him.
Delph, who has 20 caps for England throughout his career, made 11 appearances in the Premier League last season with most of them coming late in the season as he helped Frank Lampard’s side to safety in the Premier League.
Along with the Gers, Middlesbrough, Reading, West Brom, Sheffield United and Sunderland are all equally intrigued by Delph who was briefly on the radar of some Premier League clubs too.
Being a free agent, he is available to join whoever he wants whenever he wants with free transfer not being restricted to the transfer windows in the summer and January.
It might not have been an entirely successful couple of weeks for Rangers on the pitch but that shouldn’t mean that they suddenly panic and bring in the first free agent they come across.
There is more than enough talent already at Ibrox that Delph would not get near the best starting lineup that Giovanni van Bronckhorst could name and there is, therefore, no reason to sign him.
The constant injuries he seems to suffer from and the subsequent poor performances on the pitch make him more of a headache than a solution for any manager who has him in their team.
van Bronckhorst has enough on his plate right now for Ross Wilson to make it even harder by adding someone who is no upgrade on what Auchenhowie already has in its locker.
if there is a genuinely good free agent available, then Rangers should make a move for them but Delph is not that and Wilson probably knows it already.
