James Sands, Scott Wright to be axed, Jon McLaughlin out after update - Rangers predicted XI v Napoli
Giovanni van Bronckhorst could make three changes to Rangers’ starting line-up for the Champions League showdown against Napoli on Wednesday night at Ibrox.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday (13 September), van Bronckhorst confirmed that goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin will miss the game through injury and be replaced by Allan McGregor.
According to BBC Sport, James Tavernier should also be fit for the game after he was forced off last time out in the 4-0 defeat at Ajax last week. Summer addition Ben Davies is also expected to be in contention.
Ibrox News predicts that Davies, 27, could start in the left-sided centre-back position with USA international James Sands being axed to the bench.
Scott Wright could also find himself being dropped from the side that was humiliated in Amsterdam with Ryan Jack potentially replacing him to shore up the midfield.
McGregor, 40, is predicted to start behind a back-four of Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Davies and Borna Barisic.
John Lundstram and Glen Kamara could join Jack in a central midfield trio, which should be harder to beat than the midfield that started against Ajax.
Malik Tillman may move to the right-wing in place of Wright while Ryan Kent is bound to start – as usual – on the left-wing despite being less than spectacular this season.
Up front, Antonio Colak is bound to lead the line.
Alfredo Morelos could be in contention to play but we doubt that he’ll be starting any time soon as he needs to build up his match fitness first.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are set to defy a newly-imposed ban.
