John Souttar axed, Rabbi Matondo makes debut - Rangers predicted XI vs Union Royale

Rangers travel to Belgium to take on Union Royale in a Champions League qualifier to secure their place in the group stage on Tuesday night.

The Bears opened their season with a 2-1 comeback win over Livingston thanks to goals from Scott Arfield and James Tavernier, but now Giovanni van Bronckhorst must consider the best starting lineup for this clash.

The boss will make changes after confirming his team news during the pre-match press conference, but who will make up his starting lineup?

Jon McLaughlin was given the nod ahead of Allan McGregor between the sticks and he’s likely to get the nod once again, cementing his role as the Rangers number one for the coming season.

In defence Tavernier is a lock to start at right-back, while Connor Goldson will get the selection in the centre of defence too as a senior member of the squad. His partner in the middle will be different though.

John Souttar was left back in Glasgow after a rough debut that saw him substituted with the team 1-0 down at the weekend, and his replacement on the day James Sands is likely to step into a starting role. Borna Barisic will continue at left-back, despite new signing Ridvan Yilmaz now being available.

In midfield Van Bronckhorst seems to have fallen on his best partnership and is likely to stick with it despite Ryan Jack being fit and available, so John Lundstram and Glen Kamara will likely start.

Further forward there will be more changes once again, with star man Ryan Kent picking up a knock and not travelling with the squad on Monday.

Tom Lawrence had an okay debut, but he could be moved to the wing in order to provide more of a goalscoring threat in the side ahead of Scott Wright.

That would allow for Malik Tillman to come into the starting lineup in the number ten role after his impressive performance off the substitutes bench, where he found space and helped change the game in the team’s favour.

With no Kent that leaves the left wing spot open, and Rabbi Matondo is fit again after missing the weekend game with a knock and could make his debut in this game.

Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe are still out injured, so summer signing Antonio Colak will continue up front and look to score his first goal in a blue shirt.

Predicted XI: McLaughlin; Tavernier, Goldson, Sands, Barisic; Lundstram, Kamara; Lawrence, Tillman, Matondo; Colak.
