Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos 'very positive' in contract talks - Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has issued an update on the contract situation of Alfredo Morelos that Rangers fans will be delighted to hear.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign injured as the Light Blues reached two cup finals, winning one, but his current deal at Ibrox expires at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The Bears have tabled a new and improved offer to the Colombian but he has not yet signed the deal but speaking to Sky Sports, van Bronckhorst moved to relax many Gers supporters about the scenario.

“I’m only looking for his physical fitness at the moment,” van Bronckhorst said. “He’s been out for a long time but working really hard to get back to the levels he has to be at to perform in games.

“The other issue is the contract he has. He is very positive about signing a new contract and we are doing our best to get Morelos signed on a new contract as well.

“Hopefully in the coming weeks we will sort it out but the talks are still ongoing.”

Biggest signing of the summer

Rangers may have brought in six new players already this summer, but if Morelos signs his new deal to stay in Glasgow, there will be no more important signature on any piece of paper at Ibrox.

Central defensive unit Connor Goldson, goalkeeper Allan McGregor and midfielder Steven Davis have all signed new deals already over the off-season but the Colombian and captain James Tavernier are the last two they need to get over the line.

One of the big concerns once last season had concluded was that Rangers would be left very short in attack with Morelos expected to be cashed in on and Kemar Roofe’s fitness suspect at best but they quickly amended that with the signing of Antonio Colak.

So to potentially have the Croatian alongside Morelos and working in tandem to barge past whatever team tries to stand in their way is a fantastic quiver for van Bronckhorst to have in his bow.

In other Rangers news, the imminent seventh summer addition could be the last one Gers make this summer, according to the boss himself.
