Keith Jackson believes that Rangers’ line-up will be transformed with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent sales

Rangers have been warned against selling Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, with Keith Jackson saying the duo leaving would transform their line-up yet again.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already lost two of Rangers’ stars from last season with Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey departing, but rumours about further departures are still swirling.

Jackson wrote in his Daily Record column on Monday morning (25 July) that if the Bears sanction the sale of both Morelos and Kent, then they face the prospect of their line-up looking completely different than last season.

The pundit added that the current squad looks healthy, with Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak strengthening their attacking force significantly.

He noted that van Bronckhorst said he is happy with the current state of the squad, but what Jackson may not realise is that sales for Morelos and Kent may be out of the club’s hands.

The reality

Anyone thinking that the club would willingly sanction sales for Kent and Morelos this summer is being a little short-sighted given the actual situation the club is in.

Aribo was only sold because he had a £10million release clause in his contract according to Sky Sports, making it difficult to keep hold of him if a Premier League club came calling.

It was a similar story with Bassey, with Rangers allowing him to leave because Ajax offered nearly £20million for the defender, a huge increase on the reported £230,000 the club paid for him just two years ago.

Morelos and Kent are both in the final year of their respective contracts, with no new deals looking close at the moment.

This forces the club into a financial decision, as they can either sell now and still recoup a good fee for them or risk losing them for free next year.

While the preference will always be to tie them down to new deals, they may be forced into sales if contracts cannot be agreed upon.
