Rangers to bank £50m in potential income with Calvin Bassey exit all but done

Rangers are set to potentially bank £50million in player sales in 2022 once Calvin Bassey’s move to Ajax is done, official club partners Four Lads Had A Dream report.

In their new blog on Monday (18 July), Four Lads report that Nathan Patterson’s sale to Everton in January and Joe Aribo’s recent move to Southampton, plus the imminent Bassey exit, means the Gers are set to make an enormous profit on three players who cost them a combined £550,000.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that 22-year-old Bassey will sign his contract with Ajax on Monday while Four Lads add that “we are getting just under £19m and a further £4m in add ons, of which those are guaranteed to earn Rangers over £20m all in”.

Four Lads Had A Dream, who are an official commercial partner for the Light Blues, are thrilled with the three sales and say: “That is outrageous business at any level but for a number of reasons it has now set a precedent that Rangers can point at.

“If any team comes for our players in the future, we now have a credible track record in negotiations.

“The board and Ross Wilson deserve an incredible amount of praise and respect for that.”

Incredible business

There’s no denying that Rangers have done very well here.

They’ve turned water into wine when they signed Bassey and Aribo from Leicester and Charlton respectively while Patterson’s move to Everton in January showed that the club’s academy is still also capable of producing top talent.

While Wilson deserves credit for the money he’s got for those three players, the hard bit starts now in trying to replace them because as it stands, the squad is in a worse state than it was last year.

Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have, of course, made new signings already but can we guarantee that Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo will be able to fill the voids in the attack? Or whether Ben Davies – who should sign soon from Liverpool – can replace Bassey well enough?

It’s up in the air. But that may always be the case when trying to replace two players in Aribo and Bassey who were so vital to the side last season.

We do have faith in the Light Blues to pull it off.

It won’t be easy but if it’s been done before, it can be done again.

Rangers need to prove that this wasn’t a one-off.
