Rangers complete signing of Rabbi Matondo with announcement now imminent

Rangers have now completed the signing of Schalke star Rabbi Matondo and an announcement is now imminent, according to Fraser Fletcher.

The 21-year-old Welsh winger joined Schalke from Manchester City in 2019 and impressed on loan at Cercle Brugge, leading to Rangers’ interest in the ace.

Fletcher reported via Twitter on Tuesday morning (12 July) that Rangers have agreed on an undisclosed fee and that an announcement will be made later today.

A smart move

Rangers moving for Matondo is a good move for the Glasgow giants.

He is still young and has bags of potential, shining in his two loan spells away from Schalke at Cercle Brugge and Stoke City.

Matondo was so impressive as a youngster that he made his international debut before his club debut, with Wales just keen to stop England from getting to him first.

His time in Belgium saw him develop an eye for goal, bagging nine goals in 26 league appearances as Brugge finished 10th.

Rangers reportedly beat a host of European clubs to the starlet’s signature, further cementing the club’s status as a place where some of the brightest young talent can develop and shine.

Signing Matondo is a major coup for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, seeing them immediately bounce back after losing Joe Aribo from Southampton.

With Matondo’s fellow new additions Tom Lawrence and Antonio Colak, Rangers have finally got their transfer window underway and look set to build on their impressive 2021/22 season.

The club do still need a few more recruits in order to be ready for the new season and there is still the possibility that other stars could leave the club, but their signings so far have left them in a good position to handle it.

Attention can now begin turning to the end of the month when Rangers kick off the 2022/23 season against Livingston.

In other Rangers news, the club are chasing Genk star Theo Bongonda.
