Exclusive: Ryan Kent to sign Rangers contract extension within days

Star Rangers winger Ryan Kent is set to sign a contract extension with the club within days, according to Fraser Fletcher.

The freelance Scottish football journalist, previously full-time at the BBC, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, shared that announcements are not far away amid contract talks with players in the final 12-months of their current deals.

He highlighted English attacker Kent, 25, as a player whose love for the club means him committing to stay comes as no surprise, although talismanic striker Alfredo Morelos’ situation is not quite as simple.

Fletcher told Ibrox News: “Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s obviously confirmed that the club are talking to players in the last year of their contracts and I think you’re going to hear quite quickly about some of those deals.

“You could be looking into next week, perhaps before then, but it’s coming close now for a few of those deals to be done, and Rangers fans should be excited by that.

“Rangers don’t want to lose all their best assets, of course they don’t, that’s absolutely just not the way to do things.

“Ryan Kent, I know for a fact, loves it. He loves it at Rangers, so it’s just no surprise at all that Ryan Kent’s signing an extension. He absolutely loves it.

“So you should expect them quite quickly.

“Alfredo Morelos is a bit different but Rangers are in no pressurised situation, to be clear.

Rangers are happy but all contract negotiations that are happening right now in terms of players in the last year, you’re going to hear quite imminently.”

There had been suggestions that El Bufalo could be headed for La Liga after a reported offer from Sevilla, so even if his own contract extension is not quite imminent it will be of some relief to fans that the club are not under pressure with him currently.

The news that Kent will remain is perhaps less surprising than the sudden announcement that Connor Goldson had signed a new deal earlier in the summer, but is as much of a boost, considering his importance to the attack, as demonstrated by the fear that Europa League opponents regularly had in attempting to put challenges in through the 2021/22 season.

Other players with a year left, aside from the recent one-year extensions from Scott Arfield, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor, include the likes of Ryan Jack, Filip Helander and Nikola Katic.

Jack, 30, will be the one that the Gers supporters will be hoping for an announcement on in particular, and then attentions will no doubt turn back to Morelos in a big way.

In other Rangers news, the club are confident of adding a fifth summer signing once they’ve tied up the fourth, which they are closing in on.
