Spotted: Sky Sports cameras catch new Rangers signing Colak at pre-season training camp in Portugal

Antonio Colak has been spotted training with his new Rangers teammates at Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Sky Sports Football shared footage of Colak, 18, warming up with the Gers squad in the hot and sunny Algarve on Friday morning (8 July).

The Croatia striker joined the Light Blues officially on Thursday (7 July) after a £1.8million deal, plus add-ons, was agreed with Greek club PAOK [Sky Sports].

Hitting the ground running

It remains to be seen what role Colak will have at Rangers.

He’s not joined for a big fee but he’s an international player who’s at a peak age in his career and has just come off the back of a decent loan spell at Malmo, where he scored 19 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Two of those goals were scored at Ibrox back in August when he knocked the Gers out of the Champions League.

He proved himself to be a top goalscorer then – but now it’s time for him to do it in the blue of Glasgow Rangers.

Alfredo Morelos remains a Gers player and we haven’t seen any concrete speculation that suggests he’s on his way out of Ibrox despite being in the final year of his contract.

Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe are also options up front while Cedric Itten has already been sold and Jermain Defoe was released midway through last season.

If Morelos stays, we’d assume that Colak would be second-choice striker.

But if Morelos goes, it’ll be interesting to see whether Ross Wilson goes out and buys a replacement striker.

Roofe seems to always be injured and can play in other positions while Sakala is inconsistent up front and can also play as a winger.

It’s not clear just yet but hopefully some pre-season friendlies will clear that up soon.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are using their major sale of Joe Aribo to fund the arrival of van Bronckhorst’s new number one target.
