Stephen Odey 'open' to Rangers move amid transfer rumours

Randers FC attacker Stephen Odey is prepared to leave the Danish side should a good offer come in with Rangers among those keen.

All Nigeria Soccer reported on 19 June that Ross Wilson had held initial talks with the Danish Superliga club over a potential move to sign the 24-year-old but Football Scotland had heard differently.

They reported the following day that Rangers were not in pursuit of the Nigerian international and that they would not sign him this summer whatsoever.

Despite the confusion, Odey – who has bundles of energy on the wing – has remained focused on his pre-season at Randers but he did admit that he would be open to a move if the right club came calling in an interview with Amstavisen.

“These are big clubs, and it is clear that this is something that I want to be open to,” Odey said. “But I’m in Randers FC, and right now that’s the only thing that matters.

“As long as I have not been presented with anything concrete, as I said, I will not let myself be disturbed by it.

“If the right club comes, Randers FC has no choice but to let me go. But I am happy to be in Randers FC, and that does not change the fact that there are some rumours about other clubs.

“For me, it’s about the preparations for the new season with the team I’m part of.”

Indecision

In an ideal world, you would wait until you are 100% convinced that this player is the right one for us before going ahead to make any kind of move but that is almost impossible in the current footballing landscape.

Every scout knows each other and they all know which players are being watched and they pass that information on to their own clubs to then try and jack up the price as much as possible or even win the race entirely.

No club in the world doesn’t do this and it is almost expected now that teams will do this and if we want to sign him eventually, then we need to essentially jump the gun and begin negotiations as soon as possible.

If we then change our mins, we can easily pull out of the deal or offer the player and club such a low amount of money that they reject the deal and saves us from the awkward situation of having to turn them down at the last moment.

In other Rangers news, Gary Rowett can’t help but feel helpless as the Light Blues announce their latest signing for the club’s academy at Auchenhowie.
