Rangers ace Fashion Sakala surprise transfer target for Auxerre

Fashion Sakala could leave Rangers on loan this summer with newly-promoted French side AJ Auxerre interested, according to Homme Du Match.

The 25-year-old was left frustrated last season as he spent the majority of the games sta on the bench with just the odd start sprinkled in here and there by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Steven Gerrard before him.

Despite his inconsistent playing time though, he is expected to stay at Ibrox for next season but this new approach from Auxerre could throw a spanner in the mix.

Having been promoted to Ligue 1 from Ligue 2 at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, manager Jean-Marc Furlan wants to make big improvements to his side to try and stay up this season.

The French outfit have requested a season-long loan for the Zambian international but they are not overly hopeful of getting the deal sorted as Sakala is likely to be a part of the Rangers squad.

Having a laugh

The 25-year-old might not be our most influential or impactful player by any stretch of the imagination but he is still a very important squad member and one we would miss if he leaves.

In a way, you have to almost respect Auxerre for having the audacity to try and make a move for Sakala when he is so crucial to our plans with his lightning speed off the bench a menace to opposition defenders in all competitions.

You have to hope that Ross Wilson laughed in the face of the French side when he saw such a proposal put in front of him because there would be no benefit whatsoever for us to loan him out right now.

He is still going to get plenty of minutes on the pitch this upcoming season even if he doesn’t start every single week and we aren’t interested in selling him either unless a monstrous bid were to come in.

In other Rangers news, Tranmere boss Micky Mellon wants one of his former loan players to get his senior chance at Ibrox this season.
