Crystal Palace to hold talks with Rangers ace Joe Aribo next week
Crystal Palace are set to hold talks with Rangers ace Joe Aribo’s representatives over a summer transfer next week, according to Nigerian outlet Today.
The Nigeria international enjoyed a stellar campaign for the light blues in 2021/22, managing a mind-blowing 51 appearances and registered nine goals and nine assists including a strike in the Europa League final.
But the 25-year-old is now into the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox and has attracted interest from several clubs, but it’s English club Palace who look set to firm up their interest most.
A report on Saturday [July 2] claims that Patrick Vieira’s side will hold fresh talks with the camp of the player, who would be allowed to leave the club for free next summer if he opted to stay and didn’t agree fresh terms with the club.
The Fourth Official has reported that the former Charlton midfielder has a £10m release clause in his current deal, which limits the amount that Rangers can make from selling him this summer.
When a player is so key to a successful team like Aribo is to Rangers, it’s absolutely no shock whatsoever when richer clubs come sniffing around to try and sign them.
Palace had a great season last year and a return to England is obviously something that appeals to Aribo, as financially it’s more lucrative but it’s also a higher level of football domestically.
But Rangers will be playing in Europe next season and are consistently competing for trophies after years of building to get back to a level where they can do that, and Aribo has been key to that being the case.
He would be a huge blow to the side, especially at just £10m, but this is a lesson for the club to not let contracts of key players run down to the final year because it severely weakens your position in negotiations.
It seems more likely that he will go than he will stay at this point, and Rangers will have a huge task to replace him.
