Rangers dealt fresh transfer blow as James McAtee set to remain at Manchester City next season
Rangers have been dealt a hammer blow in their pursuit of wonderkid James McAtee, with Jordan Campbell reporting he will likely stay at Manchester City.
The Scottish Sun reported late on Friday night (1 July) that Rangers were preparing a loan bid for the starlet, though there would be stiff competition.
However, Campbell took to Twitter to pour cold water on the rumours, insisting he will stay at Manchester City.
The Athletic journalist claimed that Rangers were knocked back by City in January, with Pep Guardiola refusing to sanction a move unless he signed a new contract.
Campbell also stated that the Cityzens want him to remain at the club next season and feature in the first team when needed.
Yet more transfer frustration for Rangers

Just as things were looking up for Rangers in the transfer market, two reports emerge in one day to add to their frustration.
Firstly, their move for Antonio Colak has been delayed until PAOK sources a replacement, as was also reported by The Scottish Sun.
While Colak will still sign for Rangers, the delay in his move and the McAtee rumours being shut down will serve to frustrate fans.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst will surely feel the same way as the new season approaches, with their opening fixture being just four weeks away.
The best thing Rangers can do now is try to keep the stars they already have, with three of their best players entering the final year of their contract.
Joe Aribo, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are all approaching the end of their current deals according to the Daily Record and all are linked with moves away.
Renewing even one of their contracts will completely change the mood around Rangers and would show potential new signings that they can keep their stars.
In other Rangers news, the club have agreed to pay a six-figure fee to Millwall for Zak Lovelace.
