Tottenham offer midfielder Harry Winks to Rangers
Rangers have been offered the chance to sign England international midfielder Harry Winks by Tottenham, according to a report by 90min.
The 26-year-old is surplus to requirements at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after they signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton.
He is believed to be interesting a whole host of English sides, including Brentford, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Wolves.
The Liverpool Echo reported on Wednesday (22 June) that Everton were in talks for him, with Toffees manager Frank Lampard known to be keen.
It appears that Spurs are actively trying to get rid of him now, as he has fallen down the pecking order since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and is now a bit-part player under Antonio Conte.
The Telegraph had previously reported that he would cost in the region of £20million.
Winks has quality and could be the kind of midfielder that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking for, to be comfortable on the ball in the centre of the park.
But there is more than a touch of the Aaron Ramsey about this, and while there were very high hopes for the Welsh star after his January arrival, it ultimately wasn’t a successful spell at Ibrox.
Working in the England man’s favour is that he doesn’t have the same history of injury problems, which both made Ramsey available in the first place and largely derailed his Light Blues run.
But he hasn’t won an international cap for two years, and he has steadily regressed in prominence for his club side.
It may be that all he needs is to find a new environment where he is able to play regularly in order to flourish, but at the reported price he would represent a massive outlay, and a major risk, for the Gers.
If Spurs are so keen to get rid of him then that fee could conceivably drop, but the fact that so many sides are interested in him seems likely to keep it up.
He would be an interesting addition to the squad at Ibrox, although there is currently an abundance of players at the position, but it is surely going to have to be for far less money if it is likely to happen.
In other Rangers news, the club are to “immediately” reject a derisory offer for one of their star players.
