Glenn Middleton unlikely to feature for Rangers again with summer exit likely

Winger Glenn Middleton is reportedly expected to part ways with Rangers this summer after a series of loan spells.

According to Football Scotland, the “extremely-versatile” 22-year-old is a strong bet to head through the Ibrox exit door despite not working with Giovanni van Bronckhorst yet.

While it has been said that the Dutchman could take a look at him in pre season, the chances of him having played his last senior game for the club are extremely high.

Sell him

Middleton has only a year left on his new deal and offering a new contract to a player unlikely to be ready for the first team makes little sense.

He made his senior debut under Steven Gerrard in 2018, back when he was a teenager, and the expectations were that the club had a talent on their hands.

He had an impressive debut and went on to have more impressive cameos over the course of that season which saw him sign a five-year deal at the club.

However, since then, his performances dipped and there was hope that loan spells could help bring his career back on track.

Middleton even spent two seasons out at St Johnstone but he did not make an impact and failed to impress the coaches in Perth, let alone back home in Glasgow.

Rather than letting him leave for free next summer, Gers must do whatever they can to salvage something from his sale before the window slams shut.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
