Joe Aribo could be ruled out of Rangers v Frankfurt Europa League final - Sky Sports journalist
Joe Aribo is a doubt for Rangers’ Europa League final against Frankfurt on 18 May after he suffered a head injury against RB Leipzig, according to Andrew Dickson.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Friday morning [6 May], the Sky Sports journalist said that Aribo, 25, went off injured in the first half of his side’s semi-final win after suffering a “fair bang on the head”.
It is understood that if the Nigeria midfielder has a concussion, he’ll be ruled out of Rangers’ Europa League final showdown with Frankfurt in Seville in less than two weeks’ time.
If this is true and Aribo does have to sit out of the Europa League final, it will be a massive blow for both him and for Rangers.
The former Charlton playmaker has been one of the Gers’ best players this season and easily one of the best since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took charge in November.
Aribo’s scored eight goals and supplied 10 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions for the Light Blues.
He’s barely missed a game despite a stint away on international duty with Nigeria, he’s versatile, he’s reliable and while he’s not exactly consistent, he’s still been outstanding more often than not.
If he’s missing in Seville, our chances of winning the final will take a blow.
It remains to be seen, of course, what the landscape will be in terms of injuries because certain players will be walking a fitness tightrope to be back for the clash with Frankfurt.
But due to concussion and head injury protocol, Aribo would probably have to sit out of the game if that’s what he’s got.
Ultimately, player safety comes first but this has got to be horrible for the young man.
