Rangers ace James Tavernier worshipped as 'invaluable' by Ally McCoist

The success of Rangers since they returned to the Scottish Premiership has involved one particular player who has gone onto new levels every season.

That is, of course, club captain James Tavernier who recently notched up his 80th goal for the club from right-back and has inspired his side to great things, especially this season.

His big-game mentality has seen him be one of the main heroes of the Gers’ Europa League run and he did it again on Thursday as he netted the opening goal of the night at Ibrox.

Way before he sent Glasgow barmy, Rangers legend Ally McCoist was singing his praises from the rooftops live on BT Sport.

“His record in terms of goals and assists is absolutely remarkable,” McCoist said on BT Sport 2 (5 May, 07:25pm).

“The amount of times he arrives at the back post in that area is frightening and for a full-back, his quality of finishing is quite magnificent.

“He has been invaluable and the improvement in his game, particularly defensively, has been great as well.”

We all know that Rangers have had many great players in their illustrious history and they all have their spot in the Ibrox hall of fame, deservedly so.

But can any of them boast a track record in both statistical and emotional brilliance as Tavernier can? Even if he is English.

Let’s not forget that he has scored every single one of his goals from right-back but he possesses a record in front of goal that a striker would dream of (ok, he does take penalties).

He doesn’t just score his goals against the lower-league sides in Scotland, he gets them in the biggest of games both domestically and on the continent to create some of the most memorable moments in the club’s recent history.

There have been very few players who have been able to produce magic moments like Tavernier has and very soon, we will be seeing his face proudly presented in the hall of fame alongside the very best to ever wear the famous blue of Rangers.

In other Rangers news, this Aucehnhowie starlet is set to be offered a “bumper” new deal but might be delaying his decision due to interest from elsewhere.
