Kenny Miller flies to Rangers ace Amad Diallo's defence after big Celtic call

Kenny Miller has flown to the defence of on-loan Rangers forward Amad Diallo after he escaped a red card in Sunday’s [May 1] Old Firm derby.

The winger bundled Liel Abada to the ground with the Hoops ace seemingly through on goal with John Beaton brandishing a yellow card for the incident.

Responding to a caller on Clyde 1 SuperScoreboard who thought that the youngster should have been sent off in an “abysmal” decision by the referee, he via Daily Record: “No, it’s not a red. It’s a yellow.

“You can see two or three Rangers players tracking back as well.

“It’s what, 30 or 40 yards away from goal? There is no way that is guaranteeing that you are denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

“They probably got it right. It’s cynical, there is no getting away from it, but it’s not a red card.”

Cup glory.

There was no way on earth that Diallo’s challenge is a red card offence. Yes, he broke up a promising attack but it was far from an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

You can clearly see several Gers defenders sprinting back to get into position and Abada was miles away from the Rangers goal. It would have been no surprise if Beaton had shown him a red with the game being at Celtic Park and the fact that he didn’t go it was a definite yellow.

Overall it was a disappointing afternoon for the Light Blues against their Glaswegian rivals. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side failed to capitalise on their chances in the second half and easily could have won the game but they have bigger fish to fry on Thursday [May 5] against RB Leipzig.

Finishing the Europa League campaign – as well as winning the Scottish Cup – will save the Bears some blushes at the end of the season in a disappointing year domestically.

In other Rangers news, Charlie Nicholas has dropped what could save Rangers’ title blunder this season in a “craziness” view.
