Rangers in talks with Abdoulaye Sissako, he wants to quit Zulte Waregem - report

Rangers are in notable talks with Zulte Waregem midfielder Abdoulaye Sissako, according to DH Les Sports.

The online outlet has reported that the Bears could seal a free transfer for the defensive 23-year-old ahead of next season.

Zulte Waregem are said to have an option to extend Sissako’s deal for an extra year but are yet to exercise that.

Despite having that option on his deal, it is shared that Sissako would prefer to quit the club and explore other options.

Rangers are not the only club who are said to have an interest though, with developments hotting up as the season comes to an end.

There is no mention of other clubs that have opened talks, meaning that the Bears may have the upperhand in negotiations.

Smart move?

The midfield could be an area that Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to strengthen in the upcoming summer.

Steven Davis started against Motherwell yesterday for only the second time this season and could move on or retire at the end of this campaign.

That would, of course, leave a huge gap and bringing someone in with a big personality may be on the agenda.

Can Sissako bring that? We doubt that.

The 23-year-old is a defensive-minded player and would no doubt be brought in as a cover for the likes of John Lundstram and Ryan Jack.

Ross Wilson has been using the free market diligently in recent years, with the likes of Lundstram coming in and really starting to shine.

Time will tell if Sissako could be the next in line to do that at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, One 25-year-old could now be deemed as surplus to requirements at Ibrox this season
