Rangers' 1972 European winners to be portrayed in movie

As Rangers prepare themselves for a Europa League semi-final, one of the club’s most famous teams are celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The ‘Barcelona Bears’ have their name after they went to Spain and won the European Cup Winners Cup by a 3-2 margin against Dynamo Moscow to claim the Gers’ only continental trophy.

50 years on from that success and Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hoping to emulate those achievements but the Barca Bears are getting even more accolades to this day.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds-based film company The City Talking Studios are taking on the challenge of telling their incredible story on the silver screen.

They have already been involved in other footballing ventures with their hometown Leeds United on both Amazon Prime and the Whites’ 1992 title-winning side.

Tear up the script

There are far too many similarities between the current run Rangers are on and the famous 1972 cup-winning team to be real.

German opponents in the semi-final is something both sides faced/faces and they also had to get past a Portuguese side too on their way to success.

But van Bronckhorst won’t be concerning himself with those uncanny similarities and rather focussing on the tough task at hand when they head to the continent to take on RB Leipzig this Thursday.

A repeat of what we saw half a century ago would be fantastic and there is every possibility that they could replicate their elders but it is going to be incredibly tough.

On paper, this is probably the end of the road for the Scottish champions but they all said that before we demolished Borussia Dortmund and they’re above Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Anything can happen on the night and if we turn up at our best, we will be victorious.

In other Rangers news, the club did something big after the 3-1 Motherwell win in their ongoing row with the SPFL.
