Ally McCoist destroys James Tavernier for what he did in Rangers showdown v Motherwell
Ally McCoist has taken aim at Rangers defender James Tavernier for his distribution against Motherwell this afternoon.
The skipper has plenty of opportunities to whip in dangerous balls, but often missed his target or completely overhit it.
McCoist was not impressed and labelled Tavernier’s efforts as “really poor” for most of the clash at Fir Park, although he did smash home the all-important third from the penalty spot.
Speaking live on Sky Sports this afternoon, McCoist was not impressed with the quality on show at times down the right.
“It’s a really poor delivery,” he moaned.
“From someone whose delivery is usually really good.”
Tavernier put in a couple of good crosses, but that came after many failed attempts into the box.
The skipper obviously had more joy before Leon Balogun was sent off, but even after, the ball broke for him in numerous good areas.
With Scott Arfield free at one point for a simple pass, Tavernier instead went for the wonder ball and instead smashed it into the stand.
Decision making is usually something where the right-back stands head and shoulders above the rest, but he was poor this afternoon, he will know that.
These are the areas that Tavernier will need to book up his ideas ahead of the trip to RB Leipzig on Thursday, as he will be critical to our Europa League hopes moving forward.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst will expect off-days given how good the captain has been, but he will be wanting more moving forward.
