Billy Gilmour could be set for another Chelsea loan exit, Rangers could seal deal - report

Rangers could be a potential loan destination for Chelsea wonder Billy Gilmour this summer, according to 90min.

The online outlet suggests that another temporary exit is likely given his struggles at Norwich City this season.

A return to Ibrox could be on the cards as Gilmour looks to seal his spot in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad should they qualify for the World Cup.

Graeme Bailey and Krishan Davis reported on the 90min website that Gilmour could return to Ibrox this summer.

“A loan at Norwich City simply hasn’t gone to plan for Chelsea fan favourite Billy Gilmour,” they wrote.

“The young Scot is likely to suffer relegation with the Canaries at the end of what has been a testing season.

“With a place in Scotland’s World Cup squad at stake should they qualify, another Premier League loan likely beckons as he has not done enough to justify a place in Tuchel’s squad.”

No brainer.

What a move this would be.

Gilmour will understand Scottish football more than any youngster coming from the Premier League, and his international experience could be invaluable.

There are big question marks surrounding the future of Steven Davis in midfield, so it would make complete sense to bring in another option.

Gilmour has not been given a consistent chance at Norwich, and look where they are, that wouldn’t be the case at Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst loves to play those two holding midfielders who can not only get stuck in but can spray the ball around the park.

That is bread and butter stuff for Gilmour, and he would surely appreciate a move back to Glasgow for a year at this stage of his career.

On top of all of that, he will be keeping an eye on our European exploits this year and no doubt is impressed – it’s time to come home, Billy.
