James Tavernier gushes about Rangers duo Borna Barisic and Calvin Bassey

James Tavernier has showered heaps of praise on Rangers duo Borna Barisic and Calvin Bassey ahead of the Old Firm clash.

The Gers will face Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup on Sunday at Hampden Park. In the previous meetings between the two sides, Rangers have suffered defeats, both in the league.

However, it’s a one-off game, and the Gers would be looking to avoid a third defeat against their fiercest rival.

Tavernier said hailed Barisic, saying he has got “unbelievable” delivery, while has praised Bassey for having a “fantastic” season.

The Gers skipper said via Rangers on Twitter: “We all know Borna’s quality, unbelievable delivery. It is good to have options, Calvin has also had a fantastic season.”

Selection dilemma

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has a big selection dilemma here, whether to stick with Barisic or drop him for Bassey.

Barisic struggled to get regular games, especially after his shocking performance against Celtic earlier this season.

However, he looks to have regained his Midas touch, after an impressive performance against St Mirren, followed by a virtuoso display against Braga in the Europa League.

He is one player who can bring the best out of Kemar Roofe and Van Bronckhorst will be tempted to replicate that.

On the other hand, having played till the extra time, some of the players looked knackered on the pitch, including Barisic.

If the Dutchman wants to bring fresh legs, then Bassey would be an ideal choice. It remains to be seen how the Dutchman will shape his midfield, as veteran Steven Davis could come in contention.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has shared his reaction to a “huge” development at Ibrox to come in April.
