TalkSPORT’s Jim White furious at what he saw in Celtic win at Rangers, clashes with Simon Jordan
Jim White was furious that glass bottles were thrown from the crowd as Rangers lost to Celtic, branding it “pathetic” and “embarrassing” on talkSPORT.
Shards of glass had to be removed from Joe Hart’s goalmouth, delaying the start of the second half, and it has subsequently been reported that a member of the Hoops staff required stitches after being hit on the head.
Goals from Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers cancelled out Aaron Ramsey’s early opener and all but secured the Scottish title for the league leaders.
White clashed with co-host Simon Jordan over the seriousness of the missiles thrown from the crowd, in a clip posted to the talkSPORT Twitter page.
An outraged White said: “Those are the images that are shown round the world Simon.”
Jordan responded: “And they’re shown all around the world in other countries as well. We’ve seen the situation [with missiles and pitch invasions] in France…”
“I know but let’s talk about this… I’m not that bothered this morning about what’s going on in France or elsewhere,” White jumped in.
When Jordan went on to mention incidents at Leeds and Manchester United, White responded: “But that doesn’t make it right!”
Jordan responded: “I’m not saying it is but what you’re doing is you’re saying that an individual is representative of the spectacle of the game. What do you want to do?”
White dismissed Jordan’s positions saying: “Yeah, yeah, yeah fine. I’m not interested in all that.”
He later claimed that one of the best rivalries in world football had been “yet again tarnished” by what he saw.
Shamed
Gers came out of the crucial clash at Ibrox with both an actual loss and a moral loss.
If it wasn’t enough that the title defence is likely over, the headline is the danger that fans put the players and staff in.
It’s true that a minority are at fault in situations like this, but too great of a focus on that fact makes it too easy to brush under the carpet.

It is bad when any object is thrown, but for shards of broken glass to be littering the penalty area is inexcusable.
Rival players, Old Firm derby or not, shouldn’t be at risk of injury like that, and nor should the home team either.
At the very least the individual culprits have to be identified and punished.
After the controversy around the Sydney Super Cup and the anger between the fans and the club, it should have been the football that came back to the fore.
This is the last thing the Light Blues needed on a day that was miserable enough from a results perspective.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd reacted after the game to Willie Collum’s refereeing and the penalty shout for Ryan Jack.
