BBC Scotland journalist blasts ‘punch-drunk’ Borna Barisic in Rangers defeat v Celtic

Tom English blasted Borna Barisic after the Rangers left-back endured a torrid time against Celtic on Wednesday night.

Barisic, 29, was substituted off at half-time and replaced by Leon Balogun after a shocking 45 minutes, in which Celtic’s attackers majorly exposed the Croatia international.

At half-time, before he was substituted, BBC Scotland journalist English took aim at Barisic, just as Celtic’s attacking players did.

“Juranovic, Abada and O’Riley are tag-teaming Barisic, who looks in all sorts of problems,” said English on BBC Sportsound on Wednesday night [2 February, 08:37pm].

BBC Radio Scotland host Richard Gordon said: “He’s having a nightmare.”

English continued to say: “He’s got three of them working on him and he’s punch-drunk. He doesn’t know where he is.”

Time to go

Hands up if you never want to see Barisic wear the Rangers jersey again?

He was an absolute embarrassment at Celtic Park on Wednesday night and we really cannot remember a performance as bad as that by a Rangers player for a very, very long time.

Barisic was bad before Giovanni van Bronckhorst arrived and while we’ve seen some players perform better for the Dutchman, it’s fair to say Barisic has got worse and worse.

The way he gave up on marking Liel Abada for Celtic’s third goal was unforgiveable. He just sat down.

We couldn’t believe what we were seeing and we honestly cannot condemn Barisic’s performance enough in words on this website.

We never want to see him play for us ever again – it’s time for him to go.

Balogun’s return from injury allows Calvin Bassey to play at left-back and while that isn’t amazing, Bassey is definitely a better option than the woeful Croatian, who just doesn’t seem bothered anymore.

In other Rangers news, a player who rejected a deadline-day exit from his club is wanted by the Light Blues for the summer.
