Arsenal battling Aston Villa for Glen Kamara transfer from Rangers

Rangers star Glen Kamara is a long-term target for Arsenal and could be targeted during the current window, according to 90 Min.

Aston Villa are also known to be interested in the Finnish midfielder with manager Steven Gerrard in charge.

But the Birmingham-based side face competition from the English capital with 90 min reporting that the Gunners “have been watching Glen Kamara’s progress over the last 18 months very closely” while suggesting a move would make sense this month.

Clubs circling

Billionaire-owned Arsenal already have some first-hand knowledge of Gers central stalwart as he began his professional career in North London after arriving at the club as a youth player.

Kamara only made a single first team appearance before moving to Scotland and becoming the force he now is.

With Ghanian star currently away at the African Cup of Nations, Arsenal may be looking for cover at the base of the midfield sooner rather than later.

The situation was thrown into the spotlight last night when Granit Xhaka was again sent off during the Carabao Cup semi-final clash at Liverpool.

However Ibrox manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will not want to lose his key man.

Despite the arrival of James Sands to bolster numbers in the middle, the Dutch manager’s priority during this window has been holding onto his first team players.

Nathan Patterson was only allowed to leave as he was behind James Tavernier at right-back.

The interest from Villa has long been suspected thanks to the presence of former Light Blues boss Gerrard, and the new man at Villa Park has been very active in the window, bringing in Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho.

In other Rangers news, a former captain at Ibrox has suggested a potential bust up came before news of a big move this week.
