Summerville will light up Scottish Premiership as Rangers table bid for Leeds United dazzler

We didn’t necessarily expect a busy January transfer window at Rangers but moves have still been made by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.

Several players have been linked in regards to a pre-contract agreement with the Gers while USA midfielder James Sands has arrived on an 18-month loan deal from New York City.

The biggest news so far has been that none of van Bronckhorst’s star players have moved on but it does seem as though the Dutchman is looking to add a fellow compatriot to his team.

During ITV’s live coverage of Leeds United’s FA Cup clash versus West Ham on Sunday, commentator Seb Hutchison reported in the 77th minute that Rangers have tabled a bid for Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville.

“It is going to be Summerville coming on who has loan offers, we understand, from Blackburn and Rangers in Scotland,” said Hutchison.

Summerville was coming off the bench when that update was dropped as the young Netherlands Under-21 international impressed yet again for Marcelo Bielsa’s first team.

It was the eighth time that Summerville has played for Bielsa’s senior side but men’s football isn’t something that has eluded him in the past.

Leeds signed Summerville from Feyenoord, van Bronckhorst’s former club, last year. In his time in Rotterdam, the Dutch dazzler was loaned out to Dordrecht and ADO Den Haag.

During his spell at Den Haag, who were managed by Alan Pardew at the time, Summerville stood out and was described by The Athletic journalist Dominic Fifield as a player who “was unpredictable and slippery in possession, a livewire who will be an asset”.

Pardew likened Summerville to Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha and suggested the now-Leeds winger is somewhat of a gamechanger.

Rangers don’t exactly need game-changers – but why not have another one?

Van Bronckhorst’s options on the right-wing are rather sparse with Ianis Hagi, Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe usually played there despite them arguably being more natural in a central role.

Scott Wright has been played there too but Summerville is someone who could offer something very different to the former Aberdeen man.

If the Gers can sign Summerville on loan until the summer then that would be a superb addition for van Bronckhorst.

It would add some depth to the squad and a player who’s capable of a match-defining moment.

In other Rangers news, an agent has shared an update on the Gers’ pursuit of another Dutchman.
