Rangers exploring loan bid for Leeds United winger Crysensio Summerville
Rangers are exploring a loan move for Leeds United young talent Crysensio Summerville in the January transfer window.
According to reports from The Scottish Daily Mail (01 January; printed edition, page 112), the Gers have earmarked the 20-year-old as a potential target.
He was previously linked with a move to Ibrox back in 2020 (ibid), but eventually joined Leeds on a three-year deal from Feyenoord.
The report adds that the Gers have asked Leeds to keep them informed about the youngster’s development. Leeds blocked a switch to FC Utrecht in the summer.
This is Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first transfer window at Rangers and he will be looking to bring in one or two quality players.
While the winter market is not ideal in getting top targets, Rangers can look for loan deals that could help them add depth and quality to their squad.
Van Bronckhorst would love to bring in some talented Dutch players to the club, and the link with Summerville, therefore, doesn’t come as a big surprise.
The 20-year-old has made eight appearances under Marcelo Bielsa thus far, but he is highly rated by Leeds players.
Earlier this season, Summerville scored a cracking solo goal against Sunderland U-23 side, and he is making rapid progress at the club’s academy.
Jamie Shackleton hailed him as “top-class”, and said he is a “nightmare” for defenders.
Marcelo Bielsa should welcome this move. Rangers are challenging for the title and they are fighting in Europe as well. This would come as a handy experience for the talented winger.
It remains to be seen whether the Gers make any formal approach in the coming days; nevertheless, he would be a quality addition.
