John Hartson believes that Shaun Maloney will learn from the mistakes Giovanni van Bronckhorst made after being appointed at Rangers.

Maloney is expected to be announced as Hibs boss on Wednesday and Hartson believes that he should take charge of the team from the very next game after the decision is made official.

He is of the opinion that van Bronckhorst made a mistake by not visiting the dressing room before the cup game at Parkhead.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Hartson said, "Everybody thought that Celtic would be playing Rangers in the cup final.

"You look at Van Bronckhorst and he came and sat in his seat up in the stand. Hindsight is a great thing. If he had gone in the dressing room, if he had acted as manager that day it might well have been different.

"So I think if Shaun Maloney is named manager by the weekend he will want to take charge. He's the manager by the game. I don't think there is any need for him not to be in charge. If he is the manager, he is the manager."

Classic

Had some of the Gers players shown character that day, we would not be here having this discussion.

It was only fair for the assistants who prepared the team for the week to manage the game from start to finish.

If van Bronckhorst has not spent even a minute in training with the players, he's certainly not ready to manage them for a big cup game.

The blame for that defeat falls on the players and not on the Dutchman.

His impact has been pretty obvious since he's taken charge, so Hartson does not have much of a point, to begin with.

He's just finding a different stick to poke Rangers with, given his public disdain for the club, and we couldn't care less by what he's got to say.
