BBC journalist Tom English stunned by ‘incredible’ Rangers goals in first half v Hearts

BBC Scotland journalist Tom English couldn’t believe the space Rangers players had when they scored twice in the first half against Hearts on Sunday.

Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo both netted to put the Gers 2-0 ahead at half-time at Tynecastle, a scoreline that would remain at the full-time whistle.

Both goals saw Hearts’ defence carved open really easily and English was stunned by what he witnessed.

“Two pieces of ruthless play from Rangers, both goals were really good but the space that they found for both was incredible,” said English on BBC Sportsound on Sunday, as quoted on the BBC Sport website.

“Hearts were wide open, they left acres of space.”

At full-time, English added: “Great game, fantastic entertainment. Loads of chances, a bit of controversy. Everything we hoped it would be. An engrossing ninety minutes.”

Brilliant three points

That was a superb match, as English says.

We absolutely battered Hearts at times and should have scored more than twice but it’s not as though the home side didn’t have any opportunities either.

Allan McGregor had to be on his toes to make some brilliant saves while Ryan Kent, Morelos, Aribo and Fashion Sakala ran riot in the attack.

Josh Ginnelly was sent off for Hearts when he mindlessly got involved in some handbags that saw Borna Barisic take centre stage. The Croatian left-back may have been a bit lucky to avoid his own red card.

Referees cannot spot absolutely everything that happens on a football pitch so that might increase calls for VAR to be introduced to the Scottish Premiership.

We hope that’s not the case but Barisic was a lucky boy.

In other Rangers news, the Gers will require big money for this “game-changer” in the January window, according to a BBC Sportsound pundit.
