Rangers in Celtic transfer battle over Tottenham Hotspur starlet Dilan Markanday

Rangers are battling bitter rivals Celtic for the signature of Tottenham starlet Dilan Markanday, according to the Standard‘s Jack Rosser.

Markanday, 20, is currently starring in the Premier League 2 for Spurs’ Under-23 side, scoring 11 goals and supplying three assists in 12 games this season.

Spurs want the winger to sign a new contract and head out on loan.

But with Markanday out of contract at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, a permanent exit “cannot be ruled out”.

Bournemouth, QPR and West Brom are also in the hunt for his signature, and Spurs would be due a compensatory fee if does leave upon the expiration of his current deal, which would be set by a tribunal if he remains in England.

Old Firm race is on

Markanday is someone who is making waves in England.

Only Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun [14 goals] has scored more than Markanday in the Premier League 2 division this term.

He made his Spurs debut last month (21 October) when he appeared as a second-half substitute in their 1-0 Europa League defeat to Vitesse.

Markanday has also made the bench for one Premier League match, the 3-0 loss at Crystal Palace [11 September].

Clearly, he is someone Spurs are desperate to cling onto as they earmark a future role in the first team.

However, with the likes of Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura ahead of him in the pecking order, would he be tempted to leave North London?

Rangers have regularly looked to the English market in search of bargain players, with Joe Aribo [Charlton Athletic] probably the most successful example in recent years.

In other Rangers news, a European giant is plotting a January bid for this Ibrox star and his stance on a move there has been shared.
