Newcastle may not approach Steven Gerrard as he's currently employed by Rangers, according to a report in The Mirror.

They have opened talks with Eddie Howe and despite being rated highly by the Newcastle hierarchy, they do not want to "make enemies" with Rangers or any other clubs by poaching managers that are already in a job.

This would mean that Gerrard will stay put in Glasgow, at least for the time being.

Major boost

There were genuine fears in and around Ibrox that Gerrard may jump ship should an offer come his way.

Being a Liverpool legend, there are always going to be links with a move to Anfield.

Should Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool part ways, they may consider Gerrard for the job but the hierarchy may want him to gain some experience managing in the Premier League first.

A move to Newcastle would've been ideal for him as he would get a big transfer budget and there also wouldn't be too much pressure to deliver instantly.

Rangers

However, we can now rest easy that he seems like he's staying put at Rangers for the foreseeable future.

He was the man who guided them to title number 55 and they're in pole position to retain the title this time around as well.

Hopefully, Gerrard manages to improve their form in Europe as they've been all over the place against the likes of Lyon and Sparta Prague.
