Adrian Durham shares Alfredo Morelos concerns after Rangers draw 1-1 with Hearts
Adrian Durham has expressed concern over Rangers centre-forward Alfredo Morelos after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hearts.
Speaking on talkSPORT’s ‘Drive’ show [18/10/21], Durham suggests the 25-year-old Colombian is unfit after scoring just two goals in his last 10 appearances.
“You have to ask about the fitness and form of Alfredo Morelos and where Rangers are at with him, where Steven Gerrard is at with him as well,” Durham said.
“But I’ve been having a conversation with a certain ex-Rangers striker who says ‘best Rangers have played all season, Hearts never had an attempt on goal until nearly 80 minutes, [he’s not happy at all] and Rangers battered them’. [They] Were among some of the messages I had from him.
“The fact is Hearts, given Rangers and what they’ve got in the team, they should be beating Hearts and they didn’t.”
Set to be dropped?
Given his recent record in front of goal, there is now a growing case for Morelos to be dropped from the Gers starting XI.
He has started eight of the last 10 games, showing he has had plenty of opportunities to score more than the two he has registered in that time.
There was one particular miss at Ibrox on Saturday that left him and Kemar Roofe with their heads in their hands, highlighting his lack of confidence.
Roofe was a second-half substitute against Hearts but he could now be handed a starting berth at centre-forward for Thursday’s visit of Brondby in the Europa League.
Fashion Sakala is another option for the Gers, and Gerrard may have to take a big decision in order to address their issues in front of goal.
Rangers have only scored six goals in their last seven games, and something needs to change soon.
