Nathan Patterson’s future at Rangers has divided the opinion of fans after a January move to the Premier League was mooted.
The 19-year-old right-back starred for Scotland this week when he came off the bench to assist the last-minute winner against the Faroe Islands in the World Cup qualifiers.
Although he’s barely played for Steven Gerrard this season, reliable Gers news outlet The 4th Official reported on Twiter that a Premier League club might be willing to pay £20million, plus agree a 20 per cent sell-on clause, to sign the teenager in the winter transfer window.
Patterson was linked with a move to Everton in the summer transfer window with the Scottish Daily Mail reporting that the Merseyside club offered £8million for the Scotland international.
If he moves on for £20million in the winter, that would be a massive increase in what Premier League clubs were willing to pay for him not too long ago.
And some Gers fans would be happy to see him go for that fee, with one saying he’d “carry him for that dough”.
However, not all fans agree.
One member of our Rangers Super Fans panel said he “would love to keep” Patterson and another begged the club to retain the talented teenager.
Here is a what they had to say:
If someone offers £20million for Patterson, their arm will be ripped off.
Alan Hutton’s £9million move to Tottenham in 2008 is still the club’s record sale so if an opportunity comes along to more than double that, it’s bound to be taken.
Patterson isn’t even a regular starter.
If he was starting over James Tavernier at right-back every week – or even every other week – we’d be a bit more hesitant to say he should stay.
But £20million is a game-changing sum of money for someone who essentially a fringe player right now.
