Newcastle United in hot pursuit of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos
Newcastle United are paying close attention to Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after their mega-money takeover, according to 90min.
The football news website reports that ahead of the January transfer window, Newcastle are looking at numerous players to improve their squad after the controversial Saudi-led takeover.
It is understood that one of the players they are closely watching is Morelos as the 25-year-old Colombia international is someone the Premier League club has done a lot of work on already.
90min adds that a move for Morelos in January is “a distinct possibility” for Newcastle and their billionaire owners.
We don’t want to see Morelos leave in January.
While we fully expect that Morelos’ days at Ibrox will end in the next year or so, we’d rather he went in the summer than midway through our title defence.
Morelos hasn’t been amazing this season.
He’s scored just five goals in 14 appearances across all competitions and three of them came in either European qualifiers or the Scottish League Cup.
The ex-HJK Helsinki striker has some work to do on his form but if Newcastle come in with an irresistible offer, it may be tough for the Gers to turn it down.
Again, we want to see Morelos stay but if a game-changer of an offer comes in, it’ll have to be considered and that money could be used to upgrade the squad in several positions.
Let’s face it, we’ve been underwhelming so far this season with only a handful of our performances being ones we could be totally happy with.
Morelos isn’t playing at 100 per cent – but he’s not the only one.
