Nikola Katic scores in friendly for Hajduk Split vs Zadar
Rangers centre-back Nikola Katic scored his first goal since returning from injury when Hajduk Split played Zadar in a friendly.
The Croatian, 25, is currently on loan back home in a bid to get regular game time under his belt, and he got himself on the scoresheet in a game held on Saturday.
An emotional Katic was in tears afterwards, taking to his personal Instagram account to share an image of his knee just after the operation last year and a picture of his goal against the third-tier side, saying: “Back scoring headers! Life is great.”
Katic spent the whole of last season out injured after rupturing his ACL ligament in pre-season training, and Rangers have recruited at the back in his absence.
With less than 12 months left on his deal, he needed to leave Ibrox temporarily to prove himself, and he will be eager to do that at Hajduk.
He last scored in December 2019, grabbing the winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Celtic as the Bears bagged their first win at Parkhead since 2010.
Finding the back of the net would have felt very good again, and hopefully, he can use it as much-needed motivation and boost going forward.
Katic has made 59 appearances for the Rangers, scoring six goals, and he needs to impress in the coming months to have any chance of getting a contract extension at Ibrox.
He has the quality and now has to show that he can force his way back into Steven Gerrard’s first-team plans.
