Alan Brazil reacts to Rangers loss to Sparta Prague
Alan Brazil wasn’t too surprised by Sparta Prague’s 1-0 win over Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
The Gers suffered disappointment in the Czech Republic last night as David Hancko’s first-half effort was enough to separate the sides.
Speaking on talkSPORT [01/10/21], Celtic-mad pundit Brazil suggested the away side’s favourites tag was unjustified.
“That was a hard game for me, in Prague,” he said. “I honestly looked at that, I think Rangers might have been favourites, and I thought ‘ooh’.”
Ex-England midfielder Ray Parlour replied: “You look at the groups, Al, Celtic are bottom with no points. Rangers are bottom, no points. Leicester are bottom with one point, so [it’s] unbelievable really.”
Force to be reckoned with
Sparta showed themselves to be a tough nut to crack for Scottish sides when they were paired with Celtic in their Europa League group last season.
The Czech outfit beat Rangers’ bitter rivals 4-1 home and away during the 2020/21 campaign.
While not quite so dominant against the Gers on Thursday, Sparta did show their strength, and sent Rangers a big warning over their Europa League fate.
Gerrard’s side are pointless after two games so far, and their qualification into the next round is already hanging by a thread.
Failure to beat Brondby in their next game could prove fatal to their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.
Lyon currently top Group A with six points while Sparta sit second with four.
