Hugh MacDonald: Rangers were keen on Kevin Nisbet in summer
Hugh MacDonald has insisted that Rangers were keen on signing Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet in the previous summer window.
That move eventually didn’t happen, of course, and the Scottish international will line up against the Bears at Ibrox this weekend.
MacDonald shared that Steven Gerrard was keen on bringing in another striker for his side but a move for Nisbet didn’t materialise.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer on Tuesday, MacDonald made the major transfer admission from the recent summer window.
“I know he was keen on bringing in quality,” he said.
“He was keen on bringing in a striker, I know he was keen on Nisbet, and for whatever reason, he couldn’t that over the line.”
One to watch?
Interest in a player simply doesn’t just disappear overnight and this could be one that the Bears revisit in January.
Nisbet has progressed massively in the past couple of years, and a call up to the Scotland squad was his reward for that.
Despite Hibs going into the game at Ibrox this weekend with the possibility of going top, that form surely won’t guide them above the Bears for the title.
Playing in front of a packed Ibrox with only home fans should be a taste of what Nisbet could have every single week, alongside European football, who wouldn’t want that?
Gerrard and Ross Wilson will be keeping a very close eye on this one ahead of the January window in the next couple of months.
