Alex Rae blown away by Nathan Patterson performance v Moldova
Alex Rae was impressed by Rangers defender Nathan Patterson during his full debut against Moldova on Saturday evening.
Scotland won the contest 1-0 and had Patterson after an impressive first-half performance.
The 19-year-old played as a right wing-back and proved to be a constant thorn in the opposition’s side, running up and down the pitch.
Discussing his performances on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard, Rae, who’s also a pundit for BT Sport said, “I thought Nathan Patterson did well [against Moldova].
“He tried to integrate some of the stuff he does at Rangers, he was bombing up and down the flank, he has the confidence to take people on when he gets into the final third.
“I think he did very well considering it was his first international start.”
Patterson was started ahead of Stephen O’Donnell for this one and justified Steve Clarke’s faith in him.
While he tapered off in the latter stages of the second half, his first-half performance was a thing of beauty.
He did not give the Moldovan left flank a moment to breathe and tirelessly ran up and down the pitch for the entire game.
David Tanner, a talkSPORT presenter, was also in awe of his performances against Moldova.
Via his personal Twitter account, he wrote, “This is why young Nathan Patterson got the nod over Stephen O’Donnell at right-back for this particular game. Sensational energy in attack.”
Hopefully, Patterson continues these kinds of performances for club and country as he’s undoubtedly a solid player in the making.
