Rangers want to sign Willy Caballero this week

Rangers want to sign goalkeeper Willy Caballero before the transfer deadline on Tuesday evening.

Nizaar Kinsella has shared the major transfer update with Sheffield United also in for the free-agent in the next 48 hours.

Caballero has become available after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season, leaving with a Champions League medal.

The Goal journalist shared the latest on the Bears activity ahead of the deadline on his personal Twitter account yesterday.

“Sheffield United are in strongly for former Chelsea and Man City goalkeeper Willy Caballero to replace Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale,” he said.

“Rangers have also registered an interest.”

With Allan McGregor and John McLaughlin being ruled out in the past week due to COVID-19, maybe this has sparked the Bears into action in the final couple of days of the market.

Robbie McCrorie stepped up in the 1-0 win over Celtic yesterday and made numerous saves to make it two clean sheets in a row this week after the draw at Alashkert in his debut.

Having said that, our senior duo will surely return after the international break and bringing in a third may make little sense at Auchenhowie, especially given the big wages he would likely want.

Caballero has been at Manchester City and Chelsea in recent years, winning numerous major trophies such as the Champions League this year and would bring serious experience to Glasgow.

Looking at this though, it looks as though Sheffield United are leading the race and it wouldn’t be a major shame to miss out on this one.
